Super Punch Out!

Originally posted on the Arcade Crusade Website 02/18/10:

I won an auction for a Super Punch Out PCB last year with the intentions of swapping my Punch Out and Super Punch Out boardsets in to the same cabinet. The very day that I won the SPO boardset a semi-working Punch Out came up for sale about an hour from me! How is that for coincidence? I picked it up, restored it, and dropped the Super Punch Out boardset in (and of course upgraded the joystick with Mikesarcades SPO upgrade).

I managed to win a working Super Punch Out!! PCB set off ebay. I was expecting to swap between it and my regular Punch Out PCB in the same cab. It just so happens that the very same day I won the Super Punch Out!! PCB set, a guy selling a Punch Out!! cab in Mountain Home ID gets in touch with me. I'd seen the cab advertised on CL for about a week and had replied already but he never called me. After winning the SPO PCB set, I figured I'd try to email him again. This time he replied and I picked up this working Punch Out!! from Mountain Home the very same evening… overall she's in decent enough condition but will need to be restored. I determined that the cab had too many scratches and a couple of small chunks taken out of the left side to keep stock. It needed to painted. I actually had a few pics I took before I got to this point but my camera screwed up and did not save photos taken from 2-3-10 go 2-10-10… which sucks. The control panel overlay was a loss…it had a significant portion missing…so it had to go. This is a shot after the CPO is removed but before I removed the adhesive. I picked up the side art and control panel overlay from www.quarterarcade.com. I have "Super" side art and "DUCK-PULL" CPO artwork coming from Rich at www.thisoldgame.com. I already had the "pull" Nintendo upgrade kit I purhchased from www.mikesarcade.com some months back.  I installed T-Molding from www.mikesarcade.com which is flatter than the www.t-molding.com variety but STILL not PERFECTLY flat… it will do though. The Punch Out!! side art is installed… the coin doors were re-painted…

Hey great work! Was wondering if you can provide the measurements for this cabinet, please. I’m doing a DIY project and can’t seem to find them anywhere…
