Again I have somehow managed to "fill" the garagecade to the point where nothing else will fit. I had said I wasn't going to do it again… but it's amazing just how much room a Jurassic Park Lost World … and a Dynamo Showcase cabinet take up. This, on top of the fact that I'd just added an Asteroids Deluxe to the garagecade. How did I get back to where I was when I decided to clear out some room? Well…
The inevitable re-population of my free space in the garagecade begun months ago when fellow KLOVian Hucklebuck hit me up about a Jurassic Park: Lost World he had that he wanted to part with. Due to circumstances at the time a deal was not made and life went on. A couple months back we re-visited the deal and a date was set to when I could take a trip to Utah to pick it up… which happened to be 3 or 4 weeks later. OK… step one to my loss of precious gameroom real estate was put in to action. Well, during this 3-4 weeks between the time we agreed on a deal and the time I picked up the machine, a FREE Golden Tee Fore 2005 Dynamo Showcase cabinet popped up on craigslist. How can I pass up … FREE? And there you go. Free/open space in the gameroom has been, well, eliminated. >Argh<
:A GOOD DEAL: Sega's Jurassic Park: The Lost Word is a very enjoyable dual-gun game. It's arguably one of the best gun games made… and still holds it's own today. I couldn't pass up the chance to own one. While the cockpit/environmental would certainly be a sight to see in a garagecade… alas, it is but the upright version. The cabinet itself is in pretty damn good shape with some minor issues here and there (some T-molding damage in a couple places and a scratch here and there). The marquee is in good shape with a noticeable scratch or two but nothing terrible. The monitor comes up bright and clear with only minimal burn-in. The game itself runs… but doesn't exactly play right. I am working on gun issues at the present time… a typical issue with these machines. I am pretty confident I will get this game up and running shortly… and when I do I will be posting a full blog post on the game, the gun issues, etc… look for that post (hopefully) soon.
IT WAS FREE: I was poking around the local craigslist one day when a Golden Tee Fore 2005 Showcase cabinet came up … FREE. It said "Non-working… needs new hard drive". I responded about 50 minutes after it was posted figuring it was already gone. I then went about my business. Probably a good 6 hours later I get a phone call from a guy asking me if I still wanted the game. I told him I did and that I could come pick it up that night. My biggest concern was if it was in a basement or upstairs. The man replied "You can take it out my back yard and around the side of the house". As you will soon read… while "technically" that is an accurate statement… it sure didn't take in to account the concern I expressed by asking if the damn thing was in a basement or upstairs. Yes, I could take it out the back… but then I had to take it down 8 steps… around a pool… up 11 more steps to a 12×12 landing… then up a pea-gravel path 25 feet at a decent incline… through the fence then another 40' or up the same incline but through soggy grass. I just about killed my 44 year old ass. Even with his help and the help of his two teenage sons it was one HELLUVA bitch to get that game in my trailer. But I made it… and probably lost 5 pounds in sweat doing so… I may or may not write up a blog post about this cabinet depending on ultimately what I do with it. Originally the thought was to move the shooter games over to this showcase since the cabinet was in better shape and the monitor has zero burn… but, damn, that is a lot of work moving 6 games and 4 guns over. I am now leaning toward recapping the monitor then selling the cabinet as a Golden Tee Fore 2005 … or investing the $65.00 + ship to make it a Golden Tee Complete then selling that. I figure I might be able to pull $400-$500. The final thought that went through my head was to make it a dedicated 4-player cabinet… but the problem with that is that there aren't any good multigame options that support 4-players short of MAME. Meh. We'll see what I end up doing… I think I "might" be leaning toward sucking it up and making the effort to move the gun games over… then I could sell the working Golden Tee Fore PCBs and pretty much give away the Atari showcase cabinet I currently have… Decisions decisions… In any case, the garagecade is feeling much more cramped these days.
